Hello my name is Mrs. Berrios, and I am the Transitions I teacher

Greetings! My name is Shirley Berrios and I am a transition class teacher at       Potters House Academy. I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Science of Nursing,  from University of Puerto Rico in 2004. I worked with a pediatrician for about two years and with a maternal fetal doctor forthree years. Because of my passion for kids with disabilities I decided to become a teacher. In 2008 I earned a Master’s Degree in Arts of Special Education, it was completed at the Caribbean University.

I left the nursing field to become a special education teacher. I worked for two years at United Cerebral Palsy Bailes Campus with severe autism and many different populations including students with different cognitive deficits and extreme behaviors. I have taught all grades from kindergarten through fifth in the areas of language arts and math. I have had the privilege of teaching in Potters House Academy since October of 2012 and truly enjoy every single day here!

I grew up in Morovis, Puerto Rico, in a family of five. I have a twin sister and a younger sister. My husband, Luis, and I have been married since July 2004. In 2005 our joyful daughter Shaniellys was born and in 2012 our son Jayden. In my free time I enjoy spending time with my family, traveling, snorkeling and scuba diving. My husband and I attend “Iglesia Cristiana de Adoración” Assemblies of God. My ministry is worshiper for the glory of God.

Christian Philosophy of Education:

My philosophy of Christian Education stems from a belief that we are called to live in this world as transformers. We are called by God to learn about his world and to be a light in it. I believe that in my classroom, students will know they are part of a community. I want my students to feel encouraged in their faith along with their academic learning. As a Christian educator I strive to work with parents to give each child the support that they need to grow and learn in all areas of life.

Favorite scripture:Psalms 121:1-8 KJV
